If you’ve noticed tiny red spidery veins around your nose, cheeks, mouth or limbs, you may have broken capillaries. This is perfectly normal and can be easily treated with IPL treatments. Broken capillaries are usually just enlarged blood vessels which have teared, allowing blood to seep out and become visible just below your top skin layers.
What Causes Broken Capillaries?
These broken capillaries are often from skin trauma of some degree, whether it’s over exfoliation, popping a pimple, sun damage or very cold or hot climates. Genetics can also be a factor, with broken capillaries and blood vessels being more common in those with sensitive skin, acne or rosacea.
How Can I Treat Broken Capillaries and Spider Veins?
While makeup can cover some degree of it, it’s nicer not to have to pile on concealer if you don’t like the look of them, especially in the depths of winter when our nose is already dry, red and often in need of tissues! A more permanent solution is a course of IPL treatments, which minimises the redness caused by the capillaries using intense pulsed light. This light is absorbed by the capillary (not the surrounding skin), which destroys it, and the body then shifts this material away naturally over the next few days. The treatments are quick, relatively pain-free and don’t require any downtime, other than a good sunscreen. As a bonus, IPL is also an excellent treatment for wrinkles, rosacea and pigmentation if you’re looking to brighten your whole complexion at the same time.
Our IPL machine can also treat larger broken capillaries on the body too. It is common to develop these broken capillaries on the legs and these may be a lot more visible than broken capillaries on the facial area.
Before having a full treatment you will come in for a consultation and a test patch so we can determine whether IPL is the best treatment for you and will deliver the best results.
